# MIP-16 ### Summary MIP-16 completed the process of placing nearly all populated areas of the world into [Regions](https://beemaps.com/network/regions) for a more accurate measure of Global Map Progress. In the early days of the Hivemapper Network, not all areas of the world were placed into Regions. This led to a "cherry-picked" view of Global Map Progress. With the implementation of MIP-16, nearly all populated areas of the world were placed into [Regions](https://beemaps.com/network/regions), bringing the total to 2,722.
