Map Improvement Proposal 2: Region Deactivation, Weight Formula Changes, Region Bounties

MIP-2 changed the rewards formulas with the goal of increasing the size of the weekly rewards pool, distributing those rewards more evenly across equivalent regions. It also created targeted bounties for 7 high priority areas to demonstrate the value of the Hivemapper Network to customers.
MIP-2 made the following changes:
Deactivated approximately 200 currently active regions with no map submissions since the launch of the network on Nov. 3, 2022. These regions were subsequently activated as a result of the changes made in MIP-16, which completed the process of dividing all populated areas of the world into regions for the purpose of calculating Global Map Progress.
Revised the region weight formula to reduce variance in earnings per kilometer of driving. This was achieved by changing the region weight formula to be based on just two factors: the number of kilometers of roads in the regions, and a softened road density factor to account for the added value of dense urban areas that have fewer kilometers of roads.
Launched bounties worth a maximum of 10 million HONEY for submitting map data in the entire countries of the Netherlands, Portugal and South Korea, as well as the London, Paris, Madrid and Tokyo metropolitan areas. These bounties were available until Dec. 31, 2023.
