MIP-8 made regions eligible for activation after just two weeks of consistent mapping, and eligible for deactivation after four weeks of idle activity. MIP-8 was superseded by [MIP-16](/welcome/network-governance/mip-16.md), which completed the regionization of the world and ended the process of adding and removing regions.
