Map Improvement Proposal 8: Region Creation Criteria

PreviousMIP-7NextMIP-9

Last updated 2 days ago

Summary

MIP-8 revised the criteria for region creation, making regions eligible for activation after two weeks of consistent mapping instead of four.

Timeline

Detailed Changes

With the elimination of the "top-up" program that ensured that contributors received a minimum amount of HONEY per kilometer driven, it became necessary to define regions faster. MIP-8 made regions eligible for activation after just two weeks of consistent mapping, and eligible for deactivation after four weeks of idle activity. MIP-8 was superseded by , which completed the regionization of the world and ended the process of adding and removing regions.

In addition, MIP-8 signaled the Hivemapper Foundation's intention to move forward with “filling in the gaps” of countries where most of the landmass has already been allocated to regions, including the United States, United Kingdom, Ireland, Japan, Germany and Spain.
